Our Itinerary
Hi! A few of you have asked for our trip itinerary, so here it is. I don't see any place where it says "nap!"
ITINERARY
October 30 — Leave Pittsburgh @ 3 PM and connect to DELTA #32 from JFK departing @8:15 PM.
October 31 — Arrive at Amman, Jordan @1:50 PM/clear customs and check into hotel
November 1&2 — Attend ICEMT 2010 ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY conference in Amman
November 3 — Sightseeing at the Roman ruins in Jerash and The Citadel in Amman.
November 4 — Travel to PETRA with visits along the way to Mount Nebo, Madaba and the Karak
Crusader Castle. Attend "PETRA BY NIGHT" hike and ceremony in the evening.
November 5 — Sightseeing at PETRA, one of the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE MODERN WORLD.
November 6 — Travel to Wadi Rum and take a jeep tour of the Bedouin desert sites that were the
setting for LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.
November 7 — Travel to the Dead Sea and visit the Showbak Castle and the baptism site of Jesus at
Bethany.
November 8 — Sightsee at the Dead Sea.
November 9 — Travel to Amman airport, fly to Cairo on EGYPT AIR #MS 0702 @7:10 PM; arrive and
check into hotel.
November 10 — Full day of sightseeing visiting the Great Pyramids at Giza, THE SPHINX, the Solar
Boat Museum, Memphis and the STEP PYRAMID at Sakkara. Have dinner with an Egyptian family in their
home.
November 11 — Cairo sightseeing visiting the Egyptian Museum, Khan el Khalili Bazaar, Citadel of
Saladdin, and the Mohammad Ali Alabaster Mosque.
November 12 — Leave Cairo and fly to Aswan @7:00 AM and board the Nile cruise ship, the ANTARES
NILE EXPRESS, before noon; sightseeing tour of the new and old Aswan dams, the "Unfinished Obelisk" and
the "Philae Temple" of the goddess Isis.
November 13 — After breakfast ride a traditional Pharaoh's felucca boat then return to cruise the Nile
with stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu to visit various ancient Egyptian temples and dock overnight at Esna
November 14 — Sail to Luxor and visit the sites on the East bank including the temple complex of
Amon-Ra and the Dynasty Luxor Temple. Dock overnight @Luxor.
November 15 — Leave the cruise boat and spend the day sightseeing with visits to the Valley of Kings ,
the City of the Dead and the Valley of Queens. Fly to Cairo and check-in to hotel
November 16 — Depart Cairo on Delta #85 @ midnight to JFK.
November 17 — Arrive at JFK @ 5 AM and fly to Pittsburgh @ 8:30 AM. Arrive in Pittsburgh @ 10 AM
and return home

Welcome to Desert Illusions
Hey ya'll-
Welcome to our Jordan/Egypt travel blog. I usually reserve blogs for the egomaniacal, but so many of you asked to follow us on our sojourn that we decided to set one up. Thanks to Ian the waiter at Applebees for suggesting the blog name!
We leave Pittsburgh on October 30, arriving in Amman Jordan on Halloween, oddly fitting and inshah-allah. Get used to this phrase. It is ubiquitous in Arabic conversation and means "God willing" so as to avoid tempting fate to ruin your plans!
We will be posting daily as soon as there is news to post, and will be really looking forward to hearing from you! Happy viewing.
